There was Molly, the minors, and me

I don’t mean to say it was all play, I never got bored
Shaking hands for bar money at Powhatan Ford
It was a mad lot of grindin for a man in his prime
I’d beat any one of you down the line

But when the night would come falling and the lights would go on
I was swept away back to my parents’ back lawn
With the smell of the leather and the feel of the grass
Who knew how quick it would all come to pass?

What motivates you to do what you should
when losing hurts worse than winning feels good?
I can’t picture her face on our honeymoon night
but I surely remember the fights

I know that I’m ramblin, you don’t care what I think

There was gas station dining, nights’ sleep on the bus
Playin “would you rather,” and much of consequence discussed
We were most of us boys running ragged our dreams

There were rings in my future as far as I could see
The sounds of the crowd I carried with me
There were girls on the road, but none of it was free
